One of the many things that we find extremely limiting about managing video content using Youtube style member channels is the inability to manage content using folders that the member can name. Folders make content management easier both for the member and for the visitor as the member can choose to expose related content in a single folder or sets of folders publically.

Folders are named by the member and can be configured to be public, permissive, or private. The permissions can be changed at any time. Any supported content type can mixed together and occupy any folder with other content types. These include Vidlisting video, PDFs, Microsoft office files, Youtube videos, web links, and Real Estate Shows slideshows.
Public Folders: Public folders have content that is shared to the public via the Vidlisting search results, the content sharing features, group/individual widgets, the multimedia messaging functionality, and RSS syndication. All shared content is also made available to external members and partner websites via the developer APIs and content discovery tools. All content that is moved into a public folder is immediately changed to a shared state. Each public folder has its own dynamic RSS 2.0 syndication feed associated with that folder that changes immediately when the contents of the folder change.
Permissive Folders: Permissive folders are only accessible to the owner member and viewable to an approved set of other members. Content in permissive folders is only shareable via the content sharing features. Members must request and be approved by the content owner before gaining access to content in permissive folders.
Private Folders: Private folders contain content that is only accessible to and viewable by the content owner or those that have been sent a virtual folder. There is no RSS 2.0 feed associated with private folders.
On The Vidlisting.com Domain: Folders are only available in the member’s area of the Vidlisting website. Members must be a premium or Corporate level user to use personalized folders. Trial members can use personalized folders during their trial period. Gold level members have their work area accessible as a single folder only with only the option to share/unshare content on an individual basis.
This feature is not available to Vidlisting Free level members or website guests.
On Vidlisting Members’ Websites: This functionality is not available for content management on Vidlsiting member websites…yet.
On Self Hosting Partner Sites: The developer application programming interfaces (API) fully support the creating, renaming, deleting and moving content of all supported types to/from folders. Developers can also set and modify access permissions on folders.
Folders created and modified using the customer facing API set can be tangible entities within a member’s workspace. Folders created using the APIs can also be managed in “the cloud” and not associated with any given Vidlisting member workspace.
