The ability to collaborate across an organization is central to the definition of enterprise tools. Vidlisting corporate members have the ability to turn ordinary content folders into powerful enterprise collaboration tools known as virtual folders. Virtual folders can be sent to any member internal or external to an organization (partners, suppliers, portal members) that allow them to collaboratively share content mamgement ability in the originating member folder. We actually think that this is one of the most powerful content management features we've built to date and we use it internally as well with our partners.
What is interesting about virtual folders is that the folder owner can send any folder in their workspace to any other Vidlisting members of their choice (the “receiving” member) regardless of the receiving member’s level. The received virtual folder resides right in the receiving member’s workspace as is available to the receiving member(s) as if it were their own folder.
Think of this feature as a virtual view into the personalized content folder of another member. Content added, modified, or removed by the folder owner or any member with a virtual folder will be instantly viewable by anyone. Virtual folders can use any supported media file (Vidlisting videos, PDFs, Microsoft Office files, Real Estate Show slideshows, YouTube videos, and web links)
Note: Readers should understand personalized content folders before trying to understand and work with virtual folders.
On The Vidlisting.com Domain: Virtual folders are available to Corporate customers. A slightly modified version is also available to members during their trial period. Virtual folders are created by clicking on the Configuration Menu link at the top of the member area and then selecting “Virtual Folders” from the menu. Virtual folders are most often created from content folders marked as private. Virtual folders can only be created by those members covered under a corporate amembership or new members in their trial period. Trial member virtual folder connections will terminate at the end of their trial period.
Once created, virtual folders can be sent directly to other members of any registration level using the configuration menu. They also can be sent by clicking on the virtual folder tab in the messaging area, selecting the receiving members from your contact list, and then double clicking the previously created virtual folder to add it to the message.
On Vidlisting Members’ Websites: This functionality is not available for content management on Vidlsiting member websites…yet.
On Self Hosting Partner Sites: We haven’t yet added full support for virtual folders to the customer facing developer application programming interfaces (APIs). This is on the list of upcoming work items.
